There’s a funny series of ads from Hahn that feature beautiful women and doofy (it’s a word, derivative of doofus!) men. Here are a few.

Bowling for Good Beer

1156122_another_beerLet’s hope that this trend catches on.

I like a few frames at the local bowling alley as much as the next guy but let’s face it, historically the beer choices at bowling alleys suck. The selection typically ranges all the way from Bud to Bud Light. Ask if they have any craft or import beers and you’re likely going to see the bartender – read college kid with a job that can work around her class schedule – screw up her cute little say and say, “We have O’Doul’s. Does that count?”

So, this story is truly heartening; some good beer to enjoy while bowling.

I don’t know why the idea hasn’t caught on before now. Bowlers tend to be a bit more thoughtful and deliberate than the crowd you find at the corner tavern or night club. They like to spend an hour or more progressing through a game with friends, keeping score and challenging themselves to improve on their previous personal best. Sure, someone will emerge the winner but that’s rarely what it’s all about. Sounds to me like the perfect crowd to enjoy some choice brews; not the same old, same old.

Let’s start a movement. Next time you’re at the bowling alley ask the bartender for your local craft beer favorite. When she says it’s not available, ask why. When she doesn’t know, and she won’t, ask her very nicely if she would tell her manager that you would like to see some good beer in the future. Tip her well – always tip the bartender well, $1/drink MINIMUM! – and wait until next time.

Eventually good beer in bowling alleys will be the rule and not the exception.

Jared Polis Chugs a Beer

OK, before I saw this clip I had no idea who Jared Polis was. I’m still not entirely sure but I have to nominate him for the coolest member of the House of Representatives nevertheless.

The clip is from the Colbert Report, Stephen Colbert’s fake news commentary show on Comedy Central. Occasionally Colbert interviews members of Congress and does his very best to get them to look silly. He very often succeeds.

But at the end of this clip, @5:15, Colbert manages to raise Polis’s (D-CO) score quite a few notches on the Cool-O-Meter. (You don’t have one of these? You really must get one!) He talks the congressman – actually it doesn’t appear to have taken all that much convincing – into doing a beer bong. The only thing that would have made this public act of partying cooler would have been if they’d chugged a beer from Avery, one of the nation’s best breweries and it operates right there in Polis’s district.

Actually, on second thought, Coors probably was the right choice. It would be awfully hard to slam a beer as big as those Avery brews.
